My field of research is on the role of bird migration in European - African migration system in respect to Haemosporidian parasites (Order Haemosporida) distribution. I am focused on genera Plasmodium and Haemoproteus distribution and how the seasonal migration of birds impact their distribution and transmission. I am combining different methods (molecular and microscopic) to establish infection of haemosporidians in birds and use recently developed method for tracking of natural migration in wild birds (mainly from order Passeriformes) by using geolocator-dataloggers. Which provides a good opportunity to associate the winter sites of a bird population with the distribution of haemosporidians recorded in same population. So, in future we can use recorded parasites as tool for studying bird migration.
