Biological experimental station "Kalimok"


 Biological experimental station "Kalimok" is located in North-east Bulgaria near the town of Tutrakan. The station is part of ecological field stations network belonging to the Institute of biodiversity and ecosystem research (Bulgarian academy of sciences). The station is in protected area named "Kalimok Brashlen" which contain more than 5000 ha of wetland, marshes and reed beds. The Danube river is just 2,5 km North of the station.




"Kalimok" station provide basic laboratory facilities and equipment for complex environmental studies of birds, incl. breeding equipment, ringing and experimental studies of birds.

The station is part of "Centre for breeding and reintroduction of rare bird species. Nowadays there are 4 breeding pairs of Rudy Shelducks (Tadorna ferruginea).
